La Fayette – Harry Don Main, 83, of La Fayette passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 7:35 p.m. at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice in Peoria. Don, the son of Herold and Ilene Nelson Main of Altona, was born on June 20, 1934 in Galesburg. He married Bettye Ann Collinson on April 8, 1956 in Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister Ellen Marcoux, and three brothers Keith Main, H.K. Main, and Clark Main. , and Kasey Main of La Fayette, Megan (Derek) Pender of Anna, Matthew (Dana) Frownfelter of Anna, Christine (Nate) Kull of Princeton, Amy Anderson (Drew Plumer) of La Fayette, Isaac (Stacey) Anderson of Taylor Ridge. Three great-grandchildren: Chloe Kull, Eliza Pender, and Calvin James Pender who was born on Saturday, June 9, 2018, continuing the “Circle of Life”. One brother also survives, Gary (Suzanne) Main of Altona.

Don attended Pierce Schoolhouse and Altona Grade School. He graduated from ROVA High School and the University of Illinois. Don and Bettye moved to the generational family farm at La Fayette and lived there for 60 years.

While farming, Don was a 4-H Leader, ROVA FFA Alumni, La Fayette School Board Member, and a faithful member of the La Fayette United Methodist Church. His hobbies were golfing, owning and training harness-racing horses and going to coffee with the guys. His family’s most cherished memories are of warm and sunny days spent at the Lake Calhoun cabin with their dad.

Not to mention, he was the biggest sports fan of his beloved children and grandchildren and, of course, U of I. He became notorious for posting signs all over for the Stark Co. Rebels football teams during playoffs. Don was extremely proud of all his family and they brought him so much joy. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 16 at the La Fayette United Methodist Church.

Rev. Tim Delaney will officiate. Visitation will be in Faith Hall from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the La Fayette Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the La Fayette United Methodist Church. Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Toulon is in charge of arrangements.
