Obituary of Harry Robert Savage Harry Robert Savage, 70, of Hampton Twp. , our loving, devoted, generous, and patriotic husband, father, Grampy, brother, uncle, community servant, and friend was born into eternal life on the afternoon of Friday, January 18, 2019 at Bay Medical Care Facility. Harry was born in Esville on February 1, 1948, the son of the late Thomas and Marjorie (Groff) Savage.

In 1966, Harry graduated from Bay City Central and then attended Barber College at the Flint Institute of Barbering. He answered the call of our country and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969 with the 62nd Engineer Batallion in Long Bien, Vietnam. On December 27, 1967, Harry was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Marilyn Shotwell, whom he met while they were both Freshmen in high school at St. John’s.

Harry retired from General Motors after 20 years and barbered his entire life until he was unable to physically continue. He was a parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus and was a former usher in his healthier years. Those who knew Harry, will always remember his love of the Detroit Tigers and spending quality time with his grandchildren and grand dog.

He loved attending anything they were a part of including their sports, Garber musicals, choir and marching band, and dance recitals. He was always quick to help his wife in the flower gardens and with her basket weaving. Harry was involved in politics of all levels and was a Hampton Twp.

Trustee and Board of Appeals member for 14 years. He enjoyed coaching baseball for the Esville-Hampton Little League in his earlier years and also worked the chains for Garber High School football for several years. Harry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #2740 and V.F.W.

He was a man who lived life to the fullest, and was blessed with an abundance of friendships. He will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for his gracious, kind, and friendly ways for years to come. Harry leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Savage and their children: Holly Savage and Matthew and wife, Allison Savage.

He was the most loving “Grampy” of Timothy Goff, Emilie Goff, Zoe Savage, and Ginger (beloved pet). Also surviving are his siblings, Byron and wife, Susan Savage and Barb and husband, Timothy Kitchen, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Harry was welcomed home to heaven by his in-laws, Donald “Shot” and Muriel “Mo” (Johnroe) Shotwell and siblings, Nancy & Glen Solomon, Wayne & Shirley Savage, June & George Howden, and Don VanWormer.

Harry’s Life Celebration will be held this coming week at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd. , Hampton Twp. Complete arrangements are forthcoming; please call (989) 893-7334 for updated information.
