Obituary of John Arthur DeGroat John Arthur DeGroat, 69, of Bay City, our kind, intelligent, easy-going, and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on February 18, 2019 at Sheffield Bay with his family by his side. John was born in Saginaw on November 30, 1949, the son of the late Donald and Gertrude (McCallum) DeGroat. John graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School and went on to receive his associate degree from Delta College.

He worked as an Electrician at General Motors, retiring after 38 years. John was an amateur ham radio operator and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. He enjoyed golfing and watching drag racing, baseball, and football.

John leaves to cherish his memory his wife of eight years, Karen Todd of Bay City; children, Donald (Jennifer) DeGroat of Lansing, Andrew (Sarah) DeGroat of Midland, Brian (Colleen) McAdams of Webster, Massachusetts, and Julie (Brent) Madaj of Esville; seven grandchildren, Seth and Sydney DeGroat, Sierra, Klauz, Galexia, Zeus, and Triton Madaj; one brother, James DeGroat of Saginaw; one sister, Joan Mosher of Charlotte, North Carolina; the mother of Donald and Andrew DeGroat, Kathleen Priebe, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, John was welcomed home to heaven by his sister, Judy Hoerner. John’s family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10:00 AM until the time of John’s 11:00 AM Memorial Service at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 955 N. Pine Rd.

, Hampton Twp. Reverend Paul Schneider will officiate. John’s family would like to extend a heart felt thanks and appreciation for the excellent care he received from McLaren Hospital Staff, McLaren Home Care, McLaren Hospice, and the staff at Sheffield Bay.
