Hazel Dungan June 09, 1920 – February 05, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Funeral service for Hazel Dungan will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2019 at Bethel United Methodist Church, east of Lawton, with Dr. Gene Nease, Retired Methodist Minister and Rev. Cydni Tillery, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Letitia Cemetery, east of Lawton, under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Hazel Dungan, 98, Lawton, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at her residence in Lawton. Hazel Dungan was born to Isaac Thompson and Grace (Maggard) Smith on June 9, 1920 near Paden, OK. When Hazel was five years old, the family moved to a farm northeast of Faxon.

She went to school in a one-room schoolhouse her first 8 years. She attended high school at Faxon and went to Cameron State Agricultural College for 2 years, then spent one term at Southwestern College in Weatherford to obtain a one-year teaching certificate. She taught her first six years in a one room school at New Hope/ Holiday.

Hazel married Lee Dungan on December 23, 1944. Lee passed away April 14, 2014. The couple was married a few months shy of 70 years.

Hazel taught at Faxon for 11 years and then moved to Lawton in 1956 where she taught 26 years there. She retired in 1982 and in her retirement enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and yard work. Hazel was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for many years.

She is survived by one cousin, Charlotte Hubbard of Purcell; two nieces, Sandra Nelson of Faxon and Pamela Kimball of Post Falls, Idaho; three nephews, Randall Smith of Wichita, Kansas, Tim Smith of Arcadia, Oklahoma and Mike Smith of Edmond. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers: Carl Smith, Orville Smith, Grady Smith and Dee Smith.
