Heinz C. Krauss, Sr, 84, of County Highway 106, Amsterdam passed away peacefully on Sunday March 10, 2019 at Mountain Valley Hospice House, Gloversville surrounded by his family. He was born on December 1, 1934 in Luxembourg a son of Fredrich and Maria Bergmeier Krauss and grew up in Bonn, Germany. Heinz served an apprenticeship in culinary school and worked in Europe, Canada, and the United States.

He immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1957 and to the United States in 1961. Mr. Krauss purchased his own restaurant , Christel’s, in 1968 on Route 30, Vail Mills and operated it along with his wife, until 1978. Heinz loved sailing, painting, skiing, reading, and wood carving.

He was very talented and was proud to have built his own home. He spoke German, French, English, and Spanish. Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, the former Christel Lueders; two sons, Heinz Krauss, Jr. of Watervliet, NY and Andre Krauss of Manhattan; a sister, Annie Bauer of Ottawa, Canada; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and –nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kitten Angel, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown, NY 12095.
