Family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Rooks Funeral Home, 109 West White Road in Byron. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Byron United Methodist Church, 103 West Heritage Boulevard in Byron, with Rev.

Tom Carruth officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Born in Byron to the late Clifton and Willa Birdie Aultman Keys, Mr. Keys graduated from Byron High School, and served for two years in the Army during the Korean War, then served in the Army Reserves.

He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base after over thirty years of employment, was the former owner and operator of Keys Farm and Pet Supply and retired as the assistant fire chief for the Byron Volunteer Fire Department. A life long member of Byron United Methodist Church, Mr. Keys was well known as the “Byron Candy Man”. He helped coach Little League baseball and girl’s softball, volunteered with the 4-H steer program, assisted with Boy Scout Troop #620, and was a member of the Byron Lion’s Club and Byron Jaycees.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 62 years, Dorothy Watson Keys; their sons, Stephen Keys and wife Georgia, and A. W. Tony Keys, all of Byron; grandchildren, Jameson Tyler Keys of Auburn, Alabama, and Samantha Pennington and husband Kyle of San Diego, California; great granddaughter, Lani Keys; brother, Bobby Keys and wife Jackie of Byron; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He is preceded in death by a son, Jack M. Keys Jr., brothers and sisters, C. W. “Buck” Keys Sr., Oliver Keys, J. R. “Diddy” Keys, Birdie Lee Jackson, Martha “Polly” Mathis, Frances “Punk” Helton, and Billy Keys. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Byron United Methodist Church, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Rooks Funeral Home in Byron is in charge of arrangements.
