James A. Young, 90, of Evansville, Indiana passed away as the sun rose on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at North River Health Campus with his son at his side. James was born on March 20, 1928 to the late Paul and Caroline(Roettger) Young, one of eight children. He attended Scott school through grade 8 when he began helping on the family farm and driving trucks.

James was a hard worker and mastered many jobs throughout his life. He worked as a mechanic, home builder, with his brother Amos at Young Grain Elevator, and operated trucks delivering farm goods and freight throughout the Midwest. James started Daylight Farm Supply, Jim and Betty drove school buses for 20 years, and he later drove tour buses.

Though vacations were rare James helped build the original Highland baseball field and in mid life became a Mason at Constellation Lodge in Evansville. He was especially active with the Scottish Rite, serving as a trustee for Indiana, and received his 33rd degree honor in Chicago in 1992. He and Betty traveled to many formal functions and made lasting friendships in the process.

James is survived by his son, Jeff Young (Debra Lovsin) of Cumberland, Maine and Bonita Springs, FL and beloved granddaughter, Alyssa Lovsin-Young in California. Remaining siblings are sister, Valada Thomas of Evansville, IN and brother Noah Young of Indianapolis, IN. His family has much gratitude for caregivers and neighbors Robin, Cathy, Larry, Bill, Linda, Jeff, Jim, Salem church members, Around the Clock Care, Scott Fire EMS, North River staff and many others who made Jim’s last years special.

After a private burial next to wife Betty at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery a Remembrance of Life will be held at Salem Church of Darmstadt, 14134 Darmstadt Rd. , Evansville, IN 47725 on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Church or a children’s charity of your choice.
