Obituary for Louis J. Seiler Louis J. Seiler, 96, of Evansville passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born August 23, 1922 in Posey County, Indiana to the late Louis and Minnie (Arndt) Seiler. In 1940, he left high school early to join the Army.

Soon after the onset of WWII, Louis was sent to the South Pacific. He served with the newly formed Americal Division as the U.S. battled for control of Guadalcanal. He was proud to be a part of America’s first big land victory in the Pacific campaign.

Following the war, he reenlisted in the Army to serve in the occupation of Germany. While there, he met his future wife, Anna. Together, they raised eight children and were active in Holy Redeemer parish life.

He studied accounting at Lockyear College and worked as a controller at Shetler Moving and Storage until retirement. Louis was a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Americal Division Veterans Association. Surviving the perils of a Great Depression and a World War, Louis was always good to his parents, good to his children, good to his wife, good to his community, good to his church, and good to his country.

Louis is survived by his daughters, Dorle (Bill) King of McHenry, IL, Theresa (Howard) Hagan of Glendale, AZ, Mary (Wayne) Whippo of Santiago, Chile, and Patty (Todd) Eckdahl of St. Joseph, MO; sons, Peter (Yung) Seiler of Palo Alto, CA, Tom (Pam) Seiler of Pearland , TX, Fred Seiler, of Houston, TX, and Phil (Jill) Seiler of Fort Branch, IN ; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Seiler in 1998. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, September 21, 2018 at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Ave.

, Evansville, IN 47710. Visitation will continue 9:30 am to 10:00 am Saturday September 22, 2018, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 W. Mill Rd. , Evansville, IN 47710.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am at the church with Fr. Jason Gries officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, where the Retired Veterans Club will conduct graveside services.
