James Schneider, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2019. He was born on January 17, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Herbert and Aline (Taylor) Schneider. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his daughters, Laura VanDerPloeg and Ann Marie Schneider; two wonderful grandchildren, Ben and Sophia VanDerPloeg.

He attended the University of Michigan, graduating with a Master’s degree and had a long career as a research biologist with the State of Michigan Fisheries Division. He authored 16 publications and many research reports. He also served as Adjunct Research Associate at U of M School of Natural Res 1997-2000, as well as Lake and Stream consulting for private lakes, Michigan DNR, and Great Lakes Fishery.

He loved nature, fishing, U of M Sports, and music, singing many years with the University of Michigan Choral Union, including three wonderful choral tours to Europe, Egypt, and Spain. Over the years he served as youth counselor, Sunday School Superintendent and member of church choir. He fought a long battle with Parkinson’s and participated in several Parkinson Research Projects.

A service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 3, 2019 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.

The family deeply thanks all the wonderful caregivers at Redies Rehab at EVH Saline and those at Linden Square, Saline, as well as dear friends who visited and prayed for him for many years. You were such a blessing to him and our family. We will miss you, dear James, but know you are in a place of Joy.
