James E. Dittmar, 87, passed away on July 16, 2018 in Florida. Born in Rhinebeck on November 22, 1930, he was the son of Henry and Margaret (Wetzler) Dittmar. He attended Rhinebeck Schools and proudly served in the Army.

On October 26, 1950 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrytown, NY, he married Jane Fallon. The two lived in Rhinebeck until her passing in 1985. After 40 years of building around Rhinebeck with David Rigg, James retired.

He relocated to Hutchinson Island Florida in 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing on the Indian River, surfing on the beach, and watching Baseball and Nascar. He was also a lifelong member of the Neighbors Gun Club.

James is survived by his daughter Sharon and sisters Virginia (Al) Huneke, Alice (George) Martin, and Sally Monfort. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Radcliff and Peter. Calling hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY on Friday July 20 from 11 am to 1 PM.

Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 1 PM. Burial will follow in the Rhinebeck Cemetery. Memorial donations in honor of James can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, www.
