Obituary for James E. Shoemake James E. Shoemake, 99, of Laurel, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Jones County Rest Home (swing bed) in Ellisville, MS. He grew up in the Pleasant Grove Community and attended Pleasant Grove School and graduated at Myrick. Before the war he attended JCJC.

Mr. Shoemake was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for 60 years. He was also a member of the Gideons International and for years spoke in churches on behalf of the Gideon ministry and their distribution of Bibles. He will be remembered for his love of the Lord, Church, Country, family and friends.

He served in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. He was a retired poultry and cattle farmer. Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Stella (Thomas) Shoemake; his son, Reggie Shoemake; and one sister, Ruth Dearmond.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edith (Adcock) Shoemake; daughter, Marsha Meeks (Wayne) of Laurel; daughter-in-law, Sheila Shoemake of Laurel; grandchildren, Bobby Meeks (Missie) of Ellisville, Melody Rigney (Kendall) of Laurel, Billy Meeks of Laurel, Dusty Reynolds (Todd) of Jackson, and Lauren McKee of Berea, KY; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Dylan Meeks of Ellisville, MS, Ali and Kate Rigney of Laurel, MS and Evans, Asher, and Tulley Reynolds of Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Dave Moran and Kent Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral.
