James “Jim” M. Rogers III, 69, of Indiana, died suddenly Saturday night, January 5, 2019, at his residence. The son of JoAnn (Doan) and James M. Rogers II, he was born June 17, 1949, in Easton, PA. After serving in the United States Army with the 1st Armored Division from 1969 to 1972, Jim graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

During his life, Jim owned his own business, “Photografix,” for 25 years in Indiana, PA. He was employed by the Communications Media Department of IUP as a faculty advisor for WIUP-FM, and taught classes in Radio and Photography. Volunteering at WIUP-FM for over 30 years, he primarily aired Saturday and Sunday morning radio programs which highlighted singer-song writers, folk music and bluegrass.

He served as the Community Coordinator with WIUP-FM for many years, ensuring continuous on-air programing. As president of the Friends of the Parks Board, he organized their yearly programs since 2012. Jim also supported Evergreen Conservancy through both his actions on behalf of the environment as well as his constant support of his wife, Cindy.

His passions and interests included folk music, baseball (go Cardinals), many other sports, and his four-legged friends, especially his cat buddy, Ginger. Surviving is his wife, Cindy (Gross) Rogers. Preceding Jim in death were his parents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Indiana at 285 Twolick Drive. Rev. Joan Sabatino will deliver a eulogy and there will be an opportunity for people to celebrate his life with their memories.

Afterwards, there will be light refreshments and home-grown music in an adjoining room. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Parks, 1175 Hilltop Road, Indiana, PA 15701; Evergreen Conservancy, PO Box 783, Indiana, PA 15701; or a music connection, Saturday Morning Light Brigade, SLB Radio Productions, Inc., PO Box 100092, Pittsburgh, PA 15233. The John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
