James Lester Tuel, Sr., 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away October 23, 2018. He was born on September 27, 1935 in Kennett Square, PA to George and Annie (Burke) Tuel. He grew up working hard on a farm in Westtown, PA.

He graduated in 1954 from West Chester Jr. Sr. High School. He was the husband of Frances Edna (Werts) Tuel, whom he married on March 9, 1957. Jim served in the United States Army in the late 50’s and then served six years in the National Guard, being honorably discharged in 1964.

He was then employed by General Electric in Philadelphia for 20 years as an aerospace technician. In 1977, Jim and Fran bought Packie’s Bakery in Cumberland, MD and entered the retail baking business. Retirement came in 2001 with a move to Chambersburg, PA.

Jim’s favorite pasttime was spending many happy hours with his adoring family and trusted dog, Greta. He loved caring for his lawn/garden and worked on many home improvement and woodworking projects. Jim was an avid baseball fan and loved the Philadelphia Phillies all of his life.

He was also a dedicated volunteer in the Chambersburg community, helping with meals on wheels and food boxes. He also was a volunteer with the Red Cross. Jim is survived by his wife and his two children; Brenda E. (wife of Charles) Resh of Mercersburg and James L. (husband of Tina) Tuel Jr. of Slippery Rock, PA.

He has seven grandchildren: Billy, Alicia, Stacey, Autumn, Will, Hannah, Christopher and two great-grandchildren, Camden and Hunter. He is also survived by a brother, and was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday Nov.

3, 2018 at 1:30 at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave. , Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family requests the omission of flowers and that donations be sent “in memory of James Tuel” to SpiriTrust Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Online condolences may be expressed at www.
