James Lindsay Cox, 72, passed away following a long health struggle April 18, 2018, at The North Carolina State Veteran’s Home in Salisbury, NC. Graveside funeral services with full Masonic and Military Rites will be held 1:00PM Monday, April 30, 2018 at the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. A native of Forsyth County, James was the son of the late Edith Irene Sumner and Garland Sam Cox.

In addition, he was preceded in death by his wife Sheila Lane Cox, brothers Grady Gene Cox, Fred Vinson Cox and Howard Douglas Cox. He faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Army and later earned his 32nd degree as a Mason and his honorary 33rd degree in The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in 1983. He worked with Northwest Airlines in Atlanta for 20 years and retired in 1994.

Survivors include his son Josh Cox and Kim of Sunset Beach; sisters Linda Cox Herschberger and Don of South Carolina, Lois Cox Ramey and Dennis of Greensboro, Hillary Doris Cox Casey and Joe of Tampa, Florida and Phyllis Cox Carmichael of Greensboro; brothers Kenneth R. Cox of Winston-Salem and Harold D. Cox and Carol of Tryon, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. James was a kind, fun loving man with many talents and a heart of gold. His pleasures were centered around his family and friends, his love of aviation and fishing.
