James Monroe Wetzel, age 85, of Union Bridge, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Northwest Hospital Center, Randallstown, after an extended illness. Born January 14, 1933 in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Truman M. and Mildred Marie Clemson Wetzel. He was the husband of Katherine Sinnott Wetzel, his wife of 62 years.

He was a life member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 8806 of Union Bridge. He was a member of Amvets Post 7 of Thurmont, American Legion Post 31 of Westminster and was a life member of the Blue Ridge Sportsmen Association. He was a Golden Eagle with Aerie 2226 of Littlestown and a retired member of the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Co

He enjoyed watching westerns on television, eating sweets, picnicking, taking pictures and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife he is survived by children, Dianne L. Wetzel and companion Dennis Rigler, Richard M. Wetzel Sr. and James E. Wetzel and wife Susan, all of Union Bridge; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Judy Wolf and brothers, Raymond Wetzel and wife Patricia, Earl Wetzel Sr. and wife Joyce and Roy C. Wetzel, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Ethel Bange and brothers, Donald, Wayne and Truman Wetzel.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with his brother, Raymond Wetzel, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25 and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Contributions to help defray expenses may be made to Hartzler Funeral Home, P.O. Box 249, New Windsor, MD 21776.
