Obituary for Jay B. McClarnon GREENFIELD – Jay B. McClarnon, age 92, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at GoldenLiving Center – Brandywine. He was born in Greenfield on December 6, 1926 to Donald T. and Gladys M. (Taylor) McClarnon. He graduated from Charlottesville High School and attended Ohio State University.

In 1944, Jay joined US Army Air Corps and was a WWII veteran till 1947. He married Charlotta “Peachie” M (Mitchell) March 15, 1947 and she passed away in 2006 and then married Ruth Ann Hinton, January 2, 2007. Jay was a lifelong farmer in Hancock County.

Jay was a Mason and past member of Greenfield Rotary Club. He was for many years a committeeman for the Hancock County ASCS office. Jay and Ruth enjoyed wintering in North Fort Myers, Florida at Buccaneer Estates and Swan Lake Resort for many years where they had many friends.

Jay was able to travel extensively and saw most of the mainland US, Alaska, Hawaii and the British Islands by RV, bus, cruise ship, and train. He had many hobbies over the years and was very good at them. He had two “hole in one” in golf, was a park champion in horseshoes and billiards in Florida while he was in his mid-eighties, enjoyed his speed boat and water skiing.

He also loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jay is survived by wife, Ruth Ann Hinton McClarnon; children, Michael (Carol) McClarnon of Greenfield and Randall (Jennifer) McClarnon of Greenfield. ; step-children, Julie (Jeff) Peper, Greenfield and Barbara (Mike) Giocomelli of Noblesville, In.

; 3 grandchildren, Mistelle (David) Bean, Cannelton, In. , Brandon (Stacee) McClarnon, Granite Canyon, Wy. , and Kristen (Wade) Whipple, Camden, Tenn.

; step-grandchildren: Clarissa (Chris) O’Neal, Wilkinson, In. , Mitchell (Katie) Peper, Nashville, Tenn and Brooke Peper, Greenfield, In. ; 4 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gladys McClarnon, sisters Donna M. McClarnon and Janice K. McClarnon and wife, Charlotta McClarnon. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Golden LivingCenter-Brandywine memory care unit, who brought dignity and comfort in his final month. A gathering will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy.

40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A celebration service of JB’s life will following the gathering at 4:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knighstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E. 91st Street #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
