Obituary for Jerry M. Long RICHMOND, Ind. – Jerry M. Long, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Heritage House of Richmond. Born July 6, 1930, in Richmond, Indiana, to Lennard and Irene Sittloh Long, Jerry was a life-long resident of this community.
He was a 1949 graduate of Richmond High School. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He formerly worked at Keller Construction and later as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Miami-Luken Inc., retiring in 1997.
Jerry was a mentor for Richmond Community Schools and volunteered with the Third Grade Academy. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as a deacon and was very involved in church activities. Jerry was an avid Richmond Red Devils sports fan.
He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Jerry also enjoyed gardening, riding bikes, and hiking or any outdoor activities with his family. He had a love for all animals.
Jerry was a very strong family man, who was always known for having a smile on his face. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marilyn Wissler Long; daughters, Diana (Tom) Wildey of Richmond and Michele Dessauer of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Melissa (Randy) Shope, Jessica (Jonathan) Nuss, Samantha and Zachary Estep, Lydia, Amelia, Eric, and Eva Dessauer, and Kristina and Katie Etheridge; four great-grandchildren; great-great-granddaughter; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Sherri Etheridge and Annette Estep; granddaughter, Nicole Wildey; great-grandson, Jayce Nuss; parents; sister, Gloria Ammerman; and brother, Frank “Bud” Long.
Visitation for Jerry M. Long will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2300 West Main Street, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Daniel L. Nugent officiating.
