Jessi Leonar Killgore Jr , September 02, 1939 — June 27, 2018

Jessie L Killgore, Jr. (age 78) passed peacefully from this life in the arms of his sons David and Ken early in the morning of June 27th, 2018 in Anchorage, Alaska. Born in Yellville, Arkansas on September 2, 1939, into a large family (three brothers and four sisters), Jessie joined the Air Force in 1957 beginning his (first) career. He worked all over the world supplying the needs of the military and operating bulky early computers.

Jessie met and married Virgie Colhouer in Altus, Oklahoma, in 1961 where they started their family; two sons born at the air base in 1962 and 1964. In 1979 the Air Force brought the Killgore Family to Anchorage, Alaska, which became their new home. During his military career, he earned many honors and commendations, retiring as a Master Sergeant two weeks short of twenty six years of service in 1982.

He worked briefly for Alaska Industrial Supply and then moved on to his second career as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, from which he retired as well. Jessie’s interests included baseball, football and above all- FISHING; but his real passion was for people and all who met him were touched by his larger than life way of making everyone a part of his family. His third career has been his happiest, spending the past twenty years working with the Seward Church of Christ where Jessie used his generous heart helping people and serving God in the town of Seward that became his second home.

Jessie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Virgie Killgore; sons Kenneth (Audra), David (Lisa); extended family, Paul and Alice Stone, Tony and Nikki Cloud; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Coye Lee Nettles (Larry) and many nieces and nephews. Jessie requested that his ashes be interred at Ft.

Richardson National Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 14 beginning at 1PM at the Anchorage Church of Christ, 2700 DeBarr Rd. A fellowship meal will follow the service.
