Jewel Hurley Luther, 90, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, February 20 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darrell Wright and Rev. Wendell Hudson officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Randolph Co., Mrs. Luther was born October 15, 1928, the daughter of the late Reid Calvin and Bertha Brown Hurley.

She attended Big Oak Church of God. Mrs. Luther loved her church family and loved to praise the Lord and fellowship with them. She loved her pastor and enjoyed hearing him preach.

She loved to read God’s word and she instilled in her family the importance of living for him. She loved to sing and was a woman after God’s own heart. She had a love for flowers and gardening.

She took great joy in cooking for her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed sewing and was retired from Rose Garment. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Luther was preceded in death by her husband, George Dewey Luther, Jr; brothers, Alva Hurley, James Hurley; and sister, Elgie Hurley.

Survivors include her daughters, Frances Luther Freeman and husband, Dwight, of Troy, Rebecca Saunders and husband, Larry, of Asheboro; son, George “Junior” Luther, III, and wife, Blanche, of Asheboro; grandchildren, Teresa Freeman, Tonia Kidd, Franklin Luther, Bambi Mabe, Branson Pierce, Audrey Luther; great grandchildren, Brandon Clark, Travis Cesaro, Christina Clark, Hailey Sedberry, Hunter Cesaro, Dakota Hunt, Jalen Luther, Trey Pierce, Josiah Casidy, Taylor Pierce; and great-great grandchildren, Levi Clark, Greyland Smith, Bently Greene, Bethany Clark, Brayden Cesaro, Haven Eddins, Ariat Sedberry. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, prior to the service at Ridge Funeral Home, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Big Oak Church of God, PO Box 511, Star, NC 27356.
