Joan Peeler Raykes July 25, 1924 – March 29, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Mrs. Joan Peeler Raykes, 94, of Lexington, died Friday, March 29 at Hinkle Hospice House. A graveside service will be held 12pm Monday, April 1 at Lexington City Cemetery by the Revs. Scott Slaughter, Lewis Johns and Dearl Bunce.

The family will receive friends from 4-6pm Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Raykes was born July 25, 1924 in Davidson County to Charles Melvin Peeler and Ola Mae Wall Peeler. She was a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, quilting and knitting.

Joan was most remembered for her amazing musical talents, especially playing piano and organ for church events and also singing. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with all of her family. Her husband, Bill Clifton Raykes, and her sisters, Frances Ripple and Mary Jane Lopez, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith Ann Raykes and Susan Leslie Raykes, both of Lexington; her son, William Peeler “Pete” Raykes of Fancy Gap, VA; her grandchildren, David L. Burks (Sheila), Lara Burks Smith, Jeffrey S. Raykes (Kristen), Samuel C. Raykes, Daniel L. Raykes (Liseth) and Sarah E. Wagner (Nick) and ten great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292.
