Joe Don Thompson of Irving, Texas October 2, 1935 – January 14, 2019 It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Don Thompson announces his passing, on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the age of 83 years. Joe was born and raised in Crowell, Texas to the late W.C. Thompson and Daisy Mae Phillips. After high school graduation he joined the Army, where he served our country for two years.

Once out of the forces Joe attended Mountain View College and obtained an associate’s degree. He began working at the American Insurance Company, where he was soon promoted to Branch Manager and then District Manager. In 1981, Joe left American Insurance Company to create his own agency, the Joe Don Thompson Insurance Agency.

Joe was a known storyteller with a love for his family history, debating politics, and football. He had the ability to make anyone smile and enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh. He had a heart of gold and always wanted the best for people.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Patti, and his daughter, Chris. Joe will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, Cody, Lacy, Tracy, and Casey Russell, his brothers and sister, Bryant Thompson, Bill Gannaway, and Margaret Reynolds, his nieces and nephew, who have many cherished memories and had a special bond with “Uncle Joe Don,” Debbie Bell, Donna Matthews, Darlena Vandiver, and Daryl Green, and many extended family and friends. Joe was predeceased by his daughter Tracey Thompson, his brothers, JC and Jerry Frank Thompson, his sister Dorthy Mae Autry, and his niece Delaine Duree.

A visitation service for Joe will be Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., and will be followed by a Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m., at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway, Irving, Texas. Honorary Pall Bearers include John Thompson, Danny Thompson, Todd Thompson, Rodney Thompson, Roy Lynn Reynolds, Gary Don Reynolds, Lynn Gannaway, Jim Bell, Fred Matthews, Daryl Green, and David Vandiver.
