John, known as “Doug” by many, was the third child of Geneva and Fred Harris. At an early age, Doug’s strong beliefs and convictions were evident, he either liked you or not.

If he liked you, you couldn’t find a better friend. If he didn’t like you, he would leave you alone. By the age of 16, the town of Greenville became too small for his spirit.

Doug convinced his mother to sign the necessary documents so that he could join the Military. After he met his obligation to the Navy, he moved to New York where he tried his hand as a musician. There, Doug met and married Sarah Berrios and lived happily until her death in 1995.

He was employed at Walter Reed Hospital until he retired. After his love for his family, Doug loved playing cards, handicapping the horses and wearing handsomely, woven suits. He was an active member of Convent Baptist Church.

Doug loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, with all of his heart so don’t mourn his life, but rather be happy to have known him. The sun set on his life on May 12, 2019. Doug was preceded in death by his father, mother and siblings.

He is survived by: his three children, Steve Berrios, Denise Berrios and Greg Berrios. He was a loving father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and uncle.
