Obituary for John Edwin Zerphey Service date and time is pending. John Edwin Zerphy, 87, of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Frey Village with his daughter Lynne by his side. Born on November 12, 1931, in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Vincent R. and Mary Gise Zerphey.

John was a printer, he owned the former YZ Printing and was a foreman for the former Elizabethtown Chronicle. He was a 1950 graduate of Hershey High School. John attended Fishburn United Methodist Church, Hershey.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 596, Elizabethtown, and a former member of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed camping, kayaking, and working with horses, but he especially loved hiking with his llamas, earning him the nickname “Llama John”. Over the years he also enjoyed travelling.

John is survived by his two daughters, Lynne G. Bennetch wife of Darryl S. of Harrisburg and Diane Collins of Denver; brother, Charles Zerphy husband of Marilyn of Mount Joy; 6 grandchildren; 2 step grandsons; 10 great grandchildren; and 7 step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Smeltzer; and brothers, Vincent and Joseph Zerphy. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
