Obituary for John I. Merritt John I. Merritt, 71, of Greene Township, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. He was born in Erie on November 18, 1947, a son of the late Fred and Abby Rockey Merritt. John served in the United States Army and then went on to work at Bucyrus Erie.
Prior to his retirement, he was a Field Service Representative with Hyundai Construction Equipment. He took pride in working on his home as well as helping others with any mechanical questions or repairs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Edward, and Joseph Merritt.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Lee Merritt; two sons, John Merritt and his wife, Kimberly, of Corry, and Jim Merritt of Millcreek; two grandchildren, John Merritt and his fiancé, Alexis, and Michael Merritt; one brother, James Merritt and his wife, Maggie, of Millcreek; one sister, Gail Merritt of Millcreek; along with many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd. , on Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service there at 7 p.m..
