Born June 21, 1934 in Emmittsburg, MD to Anna C. Michaels and Henry Bernard Lively; grew up in Steelton, PA, graduating from Steel High in 1953. By then he had met Sandra Fae Sprout while working at Caplan’s Drug Store Fountain on Market Square, Harrisburg, and they eloped to Hagerstown on June 5, 1953, the day of her senior prom. “Tom” followed his father down the Locust Street Steps to the Steelton mill, where he worked for two years before being drafted into the Army.

He served as a communication specialist and radio repairman. Upon discharge he returned to the mill’s electrical department for four years, before painting his name on the side of a panel truck and setting out as an electrician. His life in electricity would include contractor, store manager of Riverside Electric, and inspector, retiring from the Middle Department Inspection Agency in 1999.

John and Sandy were active members of several churches during their 65 years of marriage, including Rockville U.M.C., Hope Presbyterian, and Zion Lutheran. They most recently attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Annville, where they moved following 42 marvelous years in their home on Peters Mountain, Dauphin. Tom was preceded in death by two sisters, Lizzie Lee Morehart and Mary Ellen Grika, and an infant brother, Henry Bernard Lively.

In addition to wife Sandy, he is survived by brother Philip R. Lively of Houston, Texas; son Henri B. and daughter-in-law Kerry (Freisen) of Annville, and three grandchildren Molly, Ian, and Emma; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 3 pm at The Lebanon Valley Home Chapel, 550 E. Main Street, Annville, PA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to The Lebanon Valley Home or to the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry, c/o Zion Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 5, Dauphin, PA 17018.
