JOHN W. SPENCER JR. , 69, of Springfield passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Wooded Glen Health Campus. He was born August 27, 1948 in Springfield, the son of John “Jack” W. Spencer Sr. and Betty J. (Sparrow) Spencer-Taylor.

John graduated from Northwestern High School Class of 1966 and Urbana University. He retired from Navistar with over 30 years of service. John enjoyed playing guitar, golfing and writing poetry.

He was a member and Deacon of Heritage Fellowship. He had a love… Read More » for teaching children baseball/softball and working with them on 4-H projects at the Clark County Fair. “John John” was a soft-spoken man that had a lot of love for his family and even more love for his wife.

Survivors include his mother, Betty; three sons, Brad (Vickey) Spencer of Springfield and their children, Kendall, Brayden and Kelsey; Kris (Mia) Klosterman of Springfield and their children, MacKenzie and Dane; Donald (Erin) Bunn of Angier, North Carolina and his daughter, Peyton; one daughter, Kellie Shaffer of Springfield and her daughter, Emalyn; three sisters, Jenny (Bill) Brackney, Ester (Ron) Houseman and Peggy (Dan) Mitch all of Springfield; two brothers, Tim and Toby (Jenny) Spencer both of Springfield and granddaughter, Morgan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Barbara “My Girl” Spencer in February of 2018; his father, Jack and two sisters, Cindy Hawkins and Molly Brackney. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Wooded Glen for their love and compassion they showed to “John John”.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where the family encourages everyone to wear their favorite OSU attire in celebration of John’s love for the Buckeyes. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday at 11 am in the funeral home with Pastor Ken Winter officiating.
