Longtime Lebanon native, Jon Carlton Scott, 76, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis after suffering a fatal heart attack. He was the youngest of twelve siblings from the union of the late Lawrence Dowane Scott, Sr. and Violet E. (Chenault) Scott. Jon was a popular figure on the Lebanon scene and graduated from Lebanon High School.

He was a stellar athlete where he was a captain of both Lebanon baseball and basketball teams and was known locally for his golfing prowess. Following high school, Jon played several years in minor league baseball for the Chicago White Sox. He then went on to attend Fisk University and Grambling College.

He was revered for his affable presence, especially at family gatherings and yearly reunions. He was known for storytelling to his beloved nieces and nephews, filling the room with hysterical laughter. Jon was often sought after by friends and neighbors for his companionship, generosity and willingness to sacrifice his time and energy to be of help in their time of need.

He will be eternally missed by family and friends. Jon is survived by two siblings, Stephen L. (Marilyn) Scott and Teya R. Scott Brown and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence D. Scott, Jr., Donald F. Scott, Gary D. Scott, Charles C. Scott, Larry R. Scott, and Marlon D. Scott; and sisters, Arthelma Hooks, Valada Hawkins, and Vera L Scott.

Funeral Services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be begin at 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cremation will follow services at Boone County Crematory in Lebanon.
