Obituary for Judy Crews KERRVILLE – Judy Wigington Crews, 70, formerly of Victoria, Texas, passed away in the home of dear friends with her daughters at her side on April 22, 2018. She had been discharged into hospice care after a brief hospitalization for complications of metastatic lung cancer. Her zeal for life and her sense of humor will be deeply missed.
She was born to Maxine and Gerald L. Wigington on July 20, 1947 and became a stay-at-home mother who actively volunteered in the community. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Victoria, past board member and patient volunteer of Hospice of South Texas, and was involved with the HEAR Foundation of Texas and the American Cancer Society in Victoria. She was employed by the YMCA of the Rockies from 1994 through 2004.
Our little Nana became the gypsy of the family after her girls were grown, dividing her time between Texas and Estes Park, Colorado. Her thoughtfulness kept the Hallmark store in business as she sent funny or memorable cards for all sorts of occasions. She loved good writing and would read out loud a favorite article or passage to anyone who would listen; many people have said Judy could have been a writer.
She was always a cheerleader, reacting to someone’s good news with excitement, rejoicing with them. She stayed in touch with friends from all seasons of her life and adored and cherished her grandchildren. Judy is survived by two daughters, Kelly Pelton and husband Roger of Kerrville, Texas, and Tracy Hale and husband Michael of Fort Hood, Texas; six granddaughters, Emma Hale, Sophie Hale, Myla Hale, Ruby Hale, Madeleine Pelton, Zoe Pelton; and four grandsons, Joel Pelton, Ethan Hale, Gage Hale, Luke Hale; and by John Crews, the father of her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gerry W. Green. The family extends a special thanks to Peterson Regional Medical Center and to Peterson Hospice for their gentle, compassionate care during Mom’s final days. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28th, at the First United Methodist Church in Victoria, Texas at 1:00 PM to celebrate her life.
A second service will be held in Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado this summer, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Estes Valley Crisis Advocates P.O. Box 3822, Estes Park, CO, 80517 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, memorial ID # 11272629) To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Judy Crews please visit our Sympathy Store.
