Obituary for Katherine Ascare (Vumback) Katherine (Vumback) Ascare, 103 (two weeks away from 104), wife of the late Maurice Ascare, died on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Apple Rehab – Coccomo. Born in Meriden on October 20, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Carabetta) Vumback. She was a life-long resident of Meriden.

Mrs. Ascare was employed by CT Telephone & Electric Company of Meriden. She worked from the age of fourteen until she retired at sixty-seven. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Our Lady of Mt Carmel Campus.

Mrs. Ascare was a great Italian cook and she loved to work in her garden. She was a great mother and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Macri of Meriden and Marlene Bowen (James) of South Meriden; seven grandchildren, James Bowen (Denise) of Middletown, Jeffrey Bowen (Anna) of Middletown, Joseph Macri Jr. of Meriden, Scott Macri of Meriden, Richard Masselle of Humble, TX, Maureen Harkins of Baytown, TX and Kim Koke (Tony) of Humble, TX; twelve great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Richard Masselle, a son-in-law, Joseph Macri; five brothers and four sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Our Lady of Mt Carmel Campus, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church.

Burial will be in Sacred heart Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450 or to a charity of one’s choice.
