Katie Wilson, 87, of Pensacola, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018, at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Jessie Riddle Penland, and the wife of Billy Brooks (Sonny) Wilson who died in 2012. Katie was a 4-H Leader for many years, church pianist, Sunday School teacher, youth leader and “Pensacola Mom”.

Surviving are two daughters: Linda Griffith and husband, David, and Claudette Childs and husband, Don, all of Pensacola; three grandchildren: Michael Griffith, Jonathan Griffith and wife Sonya and Cynthia Brown and husband Travis; six great grandchildren: Christian and Jordan Whitson, Brandon and Tyler Brown and Emily and Katie Griffith and a great-great grandson: Gunner Whitson. Caregivers who are ‘family’: Christa Robinson, Rhoda Riddle, Rene` Robinson, Sandy Harrison and Ruthie Beaver, and her little dog Snowball. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, October 8, 2018, in Laurel Branch Baptist Church, of which she was a member.

Revs. Andy Phillips and Ray Strickland will officiate. Burial will be in Riddle Family Cemetery on Pine Cone Lane.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the fellowship hall, at the church. At other times, they will be at the home of Linda and David Griffith on Bolens Creek Road.
