Kenneth’s Obituary Kenneth P. Kattan, 71, of Canonsburg, formerly of Latrobe, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. A long time resident, he was born in Latrobe on February 18, 1947, the son of the late J. Paul Kattan and Catherine (O’Brien) Kattan. Kenneth, or as most people knew him, “Kenny,” was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe, where he had been a funeral altar server and a member of many groups within the church including the Silver Threads and Eucharistic Adoration.

In addition, he was very active as an officer and long-time member of the Holy Name Society. As a Spring Street resident, Kenny looked forward to his weekly trips to the New Edition newspaper office on Ligonier Street in downtown Latrobe where he would pick up a bundle of newspapers to deliver throughout his much-loved community. When he was not delivering papers, he spent many of his free hours watching television.

He enjoyed many sit-coms as well as westerns, such as Gunsmoke. Topping the list, however, was Jeopardy. Without a shadow of a doubt, Kenny, with his photographic memory, could answer every question correctly.

He had many close friends that he still kept in touch with until just recently. He would make nightly telephone calls to several, usually sharing a joke or two with each person. After he finished telling the antidotes, one could often hear him saying, “Wasn’t that cute?

” followed by a bit of laughter. He was well known for adding a cheerful note to listeners’ days. He also had his own sayings he would share that accompanied his wit.

When asked what he did during the day he would always state, “Nothing,” followed by his favorite comeback, “The one thing about doing nothing all day was that I never knew when I was done! ” For a while, he had his own apartment in Greensburg. It wasn’t long thereafter that he moved to Westmoreland Manor where he stayed for a few years.

Wanting to be near his late brother, Richard, he moved to South Hills Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Canonsburg. There, his brother Richard and his companion, Cecelia Rosella, visited him. He would call this home for the final two years of his life.

On holidays, Kenny would often accompany Greensburg resident and long-time friend, Michael Daley to Richard’s house for a weekend of celebration whether it be Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter. In addition to serving his Church, he also enjoyed life by going on numerous bus trips, telling stories about the history of Latrobe, and always asking questions about people’s welfare. He also took pleasure by accompanying the men of the Latrobe area to St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center in the Southside of Pittsburgh.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Kattan. Kenny is survived by two nephews, and many friends. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 PM Friday at the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home Inc., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.

The Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Church, Latrobe, with the Very Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney, VF, as celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
