Laura Mae Smith-Futrell, 71 years old, died September 27, 2018 in Brockton, MA. from a short illness. She lived for 15 years in the town of Brockton and a resident of the Campello High-Rise on 1380 South Main Street.

She was the widow of Robert Spencer Futrell Sr She was born in Boston, MA on September 5, 1947. The only child of Elder Harrison and Maggie Smith.

Laura was raised and educated in Boston, MA . She graduated high school from Girls’ High in 1966. She worked for Stop and Shop Companies and The United State Department of Defense both in Boston.

As a young child, Laura grew up in the church, as a member of The Church of God in Christ of Boston. Her father, the late honorable Elder Harrison Smith of The Gates of Zion was her life-long pastor. Laura Smith enjoyed life and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and her birthday, which could easily turn into a month-long celebration. Laura Mae Smith is survived by her three children Robert Spencer Futrell Jr, Harrison Roy Futrell, Richard James Futrell, and bonus sons Jose R. Martinez, Nathan Landers, Gary Ratliff, and Aaron Jones. She is survived by her four grandchildren, which were the loves of her life, Sean Nikalaus Perryman-Futrell, Orin Elizabeth Futrell, Layla Dey-Simone Futrell, and Spencer James Futrell, and bonus grandson Jomone “Poppa” Bing III.

Laura had a special love for her “daughter in-law”, Helen Sostre, the mother of Spencer James Futrell and Jomone Bing III, who was there for her during some difficult times.
