LaVonne was born on March 6, 1933 in Greeley, Nebraska. She grew up and attended school in Grand Island. In 1940 LaVonne’s mother Pearl, married Howard Elvers.

Although he never adopted her, he always treated her like she was his own daughter and loved her very much. LaVonne married Raymond Harris and to this union five children were born, Monte, Gregory, Lisa, Steven and Renita. LaVonne was a homemaker and spent her time raising her wonderful family in Grand Island where she was very involved with them and her church, Christ Lutheran.

LaVonne later moved to Colorado Springs, CO where she lived for several years. She married Charles Preston on December 8, 1987. The couple moved back to Nebraska and made Central City their home.

She moved from her home into Cottonwood Estates and in 2016 moved to Osceola to the Good Samaritan Society. LaVonne loved her yard work and gardening. She also enjoyed painting.

Lavonne was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. LaVonne loved her faith and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Grand Island and the United Methodist Church in Central City. Her greatest love was for her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Monte Harris of Central City, Gregory Harris of Colorado Springs, CO; her daughter, Renita Harris of Grand Junction, CO; her sister, Avis (Bob) Blase of Osceola; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Preston; her parents; her son, Steven Harris; and her daughter, Lisa Harris.
