Pokosh passed away on January 31, 2019 at the Rouse Home in Youngsville, PA. Leah lived at the Rouse since February 2015, with her beloved husband Basil until he passed away on July 25, 2017. We rejoice in our Lord that they are together again holding hands in heaven.
Leah was born in Corry, PA on March 25, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Leon and Alice Garber Mitchell. She was the second of three siblings and preceded in death by her brother, Harold Mitchell, and her sister, Vivian Sweetland. Leah grew up on a dairy farm in Lottsville, PA where she helped with the farm work and milked cows every morning.
She learned her excellent homemaking skills from her beloved mother. She graduated from Lottsville High School and worked at Raymonds Manufacturing until starting her family. Basil and Leah were married July 17th, 1948 in the Columbus Community Church.
They were lifelong members there and very involved in the life of the church. They served in both formal leadership roles as well as simpler duties such as tending the flower beds. Leah was a very caring and selfless person who would make a point of helping others.
She was the most caring and selfless towards Basil, the love of her life. They worked hard to make two homes together, to be their happy dwelling places. Her crowning selfless achievement was supporting Basil for thirty plus years in being snowbirds, living in Florida 6 months every winter.
Basil loved that! Basil and Leah suffered from the first two of their children predeceasing them. First was their second son, Brian Mitchell Pokosh, who died shortly after birth in 1952.
Second was Phillip Pokosh, their first son, who passed in July 2008. Surviving children are Lisa Andrus (Mike and children, Ryan (Amanda) and Julia (Aaron)) and Brad Pokosh (Tricia and children Jennifer (Tim), Brian (Dianna), Andrea, Kayla, Alexis and Jacob), and Melissa Pokosh Huff, Phillips daughter, and many great grandchildren. Leah was a homemaker who took a great deal of joy in caring for their home, preparing excellent meals and caring for the children.
She sold Avon for several years and eventually worked in the school cafeterias at both Columbus Elementary and then the Corry Area High School. Basil and Leah were observed frequently spending time together sitting on their front porch on Market Street in Columbus. Many friends and neighbors joined them there to visit.
They enjoyed their walks and holding hands. They held hands right up until the end, observed daily, in their final home at the Rouse. Family and friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa.
