Obituary of Leander DeGuise Leander W. DeGuise, 82, a Rhinebeck resident for the past 20 years, passed away on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018 at the Baptist Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Born on January 21, 1936, in Burlington, VT, he was the son of the late William and Parmelia (Charland) DeGuise. At the age of 16, Leander entered the U.S. Marines, where he fought on the front line in the Korean War for a short time before being dismissed just 18 Months later due to his age.

Leander married Lynn Ernst on May 18, 1997 in Newburgh, NY. For many years, Leander worked as a finisher for the fine art foundry-Polich Tallix in Beacon. He took great pride in his role, being able to finish many monumental statues.

Recently he also worked as a Sales Representative for Home Depot in Kingston. In addition to his loving wife Lynn, he is survived by his daughters, Parmelia (Bernie) Melius of CA, and Gladys Dean of Elizaville, NY; a son, Leander (Theresa) DeGuise Jr. of TN; his step son, Lance (Caryn) Sterling, his grandchildren, Mark and Benjie Melius, Kevin Dean, Tarrah Region, Leander III and Tatiana DeGuise, Brittany (Chris) Thorganson, and Brook, Jake, Shelby, Savanna and Jackson Sterling; his great grandchildren, Aidian, and Joshua Thorganson; and his faithful canine companion, Thorn; along with extended family and friends. Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Church Of The Messiah, Rhinebeck, NY.

Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Leander’s memory to the Church Of The Messiah, c/o Choir, 6436 Montgomery St, PO Box 248, Rhinebeck, NY 12572. Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY.
