Leon Duane Beitzel, 70, of Accident, MD, died Thursday, January 10, 2019, at his residence. Born July 27, 1948, in Meyersdale, PA, he was the son of the late Roy and Edna (Maust) Beitzel. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Cleland Beitzel and one sister, Hilda Beitzel.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen (Butler) Beitzel; one son, Jeffrey (Twila) Beitzel, Grantsville, MD; one daughter, Tina (Randall) Yoder, Grantsville; two grandchildren, Lara and Joshua Beitzel; two great-grandchildren, Greggory and Carolyn; one brother, Mayard Beitzel, Allensville, PA; two sisters, Leora Yaste, Accident and Wanda (Paul) Yoder, Bittinger, MD. Leon served as Chaplin for the Bittinger Vol. Fire Dept.

, where he was a life member of 31 years. Leon worked in the field of heavy equipment operation and retired from Beitzel Corp. , where he worked for 28 years.

He was also a member of the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church and his hobby was hunting. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Barry Maust officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Cherry Glade Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Hospice of Garrett Co., P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550, Cindy’s Fund, P.O. Box 182, Oakland, MD 21550 or the Bittinger Vol. Fire Dept.
