Loretta’s Obituary Loretta Arlene Lewis, 60, died Friday, February 15, 2019 at her Myrtle Beach home. Arlene was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 17, 1958. She was the second of three children of James and Loretta (Dunlap) Lewis.

She graduated from George Mason High School in 1975 with a degree in cosmetology. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1973. She married Alan Spitzer on February 14, 1976 and they had three children together.

Arlene married James Rhoades on October 13, 2007. She was a regular, full-time volunteer with the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for some sixteen years. She graduated from American Sign Language class in 2007 to help teach the bible in that language.

She also assisted in building and disaster relief projects. After a seven year battle with breast cancer, she passed away on February 15, 2019. Arlene is survived by her spouse, James Rhoades; two daughters, Jessica Cheatham (son-in-law, Blake Cheatham), and Rebecca McCarthy; one stepson, Robert Rhoades; five grandchildren, Camara McCarthy, Violet Cheatham, Lexana McCarthy, JinLong Cheatham, and Scarlett Cheatham; two siblings, Holmes Lewis and Perry Lewis; and two nieces, Erica Lewis and Donna Lewis.

Arlene is preceded in death by her son, Jeremiah Spitzer (1980); her niece, Adrienne Lewis (1982); her son-in-law, William McCarthy, Jr. (2011); and her parents, James Lewis (1999) and Loretta (Dunlap) Lewis (2003). A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 110 Babaco Court, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses jw.org donate to support our global teaching and disaster relief.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and deep gratitude to everyone who has visited, called, brought meals, sent cards, and reached out to support them over the past several years. We also want to thank all the doctors, medical staff and hospice for their care on Arlene’s behalf. Your love and kindness has meant the world to them.
