Louise M. Gerarden,of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the age of 97. She was born in Appleton,Wisconsin, eldest daughter of Harry and Barbara McCarter. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1938, after which she worked as a dental assistant and telephone operator.

She married her high-school sweetheart, Theodore “Ted” Gerarden, while he was a chief boatswain’s mate in the US Coast Guard in Atlantic City, NJ, on November 21, 1942, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Louise always wanted to have a big family, and after WWII her dream came true. Louise’s life was one of love and care for each and every person who was close to her.

Her heart was centered in home and family, and her love was expressed in music, poems, letters, hand-sewn clothing, costumes and toys, raspberry jam and typewritten term papers. She was an encouraging, patient, and inspiring mother, and a faithful caregiver for her parents and husband through their illnesses. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; a sister, Alice, and brother, John, as well as sisters-in law and brothers-in law.

She is survived by her children: Patrick, Appleton; Timothy, Rochester, MN; Kevin (Susie), Oshkosh; Maureen, Madison; Kathleen (Ty) Westbrook, Appleton; and Jean (Ed) Annibale, Green Bay; her grandchildren: Paul (Melissa), Jodi (Ryan) Dorshorst, Chuck (Meghan), Ellen (Shawn) Collier, John (Alexandra), and Tony Annibale; great-grandchildren: Teddy, Lincoln, Arthur, Robin, Malcolm and Simon; brother-in-law Louis (Sally) Gerarden; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to staff at: Manorcare, Appleton; Prairie Home Assisted Living, Menasha; and Ascension Hospice, Appleton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 19th, 2018, at Sacred Heart Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with the Reverend Donald Zuleger officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
