Frances (Fritz) Naomi Kasten, Appleton, age 78, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by family and friends. She was born on June 12, 1940 in Gillett, Wisconsin to the late Arthur and Audrey (Temple) Kasten.

Fran was a graduate of Gillett High School and UW-La Crosse prior to teaching in the Kimberly School District for 35 years as a physical education teacher and coach. She influenced thousands of students throughout her career. Fran was instrumental in beginning the girls’ sports program, coaching basketball, volleyball, track and field and gymnastics.

She was a very strong advocate for girl’s sports in the state and served on many WAHPERD and WIAA sports committees. Fran was a long-time faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was very active through her Bible Study classes, choir chimes and taught senior exercise programs for many years.

She enjoyed her time spent at the summer home on Hills Lake, motor home travels to many areas of the United States and had love for all her dogs. Fritz was a very caring person, truly a great friend to so many, and a true servant of the Lord! She is survived by her sister-in-law, Cora Marie (Corky) Kasten; nieces and nephew: Kimberly (Ed) Albright, Robbi Lee (Jay) Foust and Brett (Greta Jo) Kasten.

She is also survived by cousins and special friends: Margaret Fulton, Sue and Sara Judge and Mary Beth Nienhaus and her many colleagues and students. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Audrey Kasten, as well as two brothers, Allen and Robert The Memorial Service for Frances will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 912 N. Oneida Street, Appleton with Rev. Chuck Fluegel officiating.

Friends may visit at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Fox Valley Lutheran Homes, 425 N. Linwood St., Appleton, WI 54914.
