Dr. Phyllis Ann Pirner, age 87, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2018 after suffering from Alzheimers Disease. She was born February 27, 1931, in Appleton to the late Edward and Gladys (Gurath) Pirner. Her love of learning led her to a career in education.

She held a Masters Degree and PhD in human development from U.W. Madison. She shared her knowledge and passion for learning with her students at several universities across the country. Phyllis loved to travel, and made trips to Europe, Israel, Egypt, Australia and New Zeeland.

She was always up for an adventure and new experiences. She was proud of her independence, accomplishments and self-reliance. She retired to Punta Gorda, FL and lived there for 20 years before moving home.

She was a resident at Touchmark, and her family deeply appreciates the loving care she received there. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward E. Pirner and his wife Janette, and her close friend Jim Buttorf. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Mel Frahm, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, close friends, and her beloved Yorkie, “J.P.” A private family service will be held to celebrate Phyllis’ life.

Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
