Thomas F. Hempel, DDS, age 79, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born to the late Frank and Dorothy (Zajichek) Hempel on July 3, 1939. He married Jane Perry on July 8, 1961.

He graduated from Marquette University where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He owned and operated Fox Valley Dental Associates for over 35 years. After his retirement, he volunteered at Fox Valley Tech for the Dental Hygienist program and for Habitat for Humanity.

Thomas was president of the Wisconsin Dental Association Thomas was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He loved nature and conservation of any type. Thomas enjoyed watching local sports, and most of all, spending time with his family.

He was an accomplished wood worker and carpenter. Thomas is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane; his sons: Thomas (Susan), James, and Douglas (Rebecca); his grandson Parker Hempel; his brother Bill (Belle) Hempel, nieces: Erica, Becky, and Melissa; and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Bonnie (Mike) Osowski.

A Funeral Service for Thomas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at FIRST CONGREATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 E South River Street, Appleton, with Pastor Steve Savides officiating. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Nature Conservancy.

The family would like to thank Aurora Zilber Family Hospice for their care and comfort they provided Thomas and his family.
