Marianne Leslie Fiscus, age 77, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at Helen’s House in Wrightstown on Thursday, November 29, 2018. She was born in Appleton on February 28, 1941, to the late Paul G. and Margaret (Brooks) Frommherz. Marianne was a woman with varied interests.

She worked for the Institute of Paper Chemistry (IPC) in Appleton for 26 years, rising from laboratory assistant to research fellow in forest genetics. She was the author or co-author of approximately 25 peer-reviewed, published papers. During her last seven years at IPC, she managed an international database on paper technology.

After the Institute left Appleton for Atlanta, Marianne worked as Managing Editor for a technical journal on paper recycling. Her hobby during this time was raising and showing English setters. She and her husband produced 12 AKC homebred champions, including 2 sporting group winners.

She often remarked she worked to support her dog habit! Unfortunately, she was stricken with Parkinson’s disease at age 54 and lost the ability to walk by age 60. She was forced to retire and turned to quieter activities like reading, playing bridge, and collecting antiques.

Never one to do things halfway, she accumulated fine antiques. She is survived by one daughter, Leslie (Joe) Jackson; 2 step-daughters: Annette Farrell-Vaughan and Karen (Paul) Hughes; a step-son, Thomas Fiscus; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 2008.

A memorial service will take place at 7 pm on Tuesday, December 4, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Matt Zodrow officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 4 pm to 6:45 pm.

Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Humane Society. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Ryan and Nurse Kelly and the caregivers at Helen’s House.

Also, special thanks to Edith, who has been an amazing friend during this time, and lastly to Christine for her tapioca pudding.
