Dr. Thomas F. Hempel, DDS, age 79, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born to the late Frank and Dorothy (Zajichek) Hempel on July 3, 1939. He married the Love of His Life, Jane Perry on July 8, 1961 and were blessed with sons Thomas, James and Douglas.

Dr. Hempel graduated from Marquette University where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He went on to own and operate Fox Valley Dental Associates for over 35 years with his partner and dear friend Dr. James Springborn. During his retirement, Dr. Hempel spent what free time he had time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, served as a volunteer Faculty Member at Fox Valley Tech for the Dental Hygienist program and also served as a year of President of the Wisconsin Dental Association.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved to fish and hunt yet respected natural res and was a strong advocate for conservation. He enjoyed watching sports, (especially his beloved Green Bay Packers), was an accomplished wood worker & carpenter but most of all, he reveled in spending time with his family. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane; his sons: Thomas (Susan), James and Douglas (Rebecca); his grandson Parker Hempel; his brother Bill (Belle) Hempel, nieces: Erica, Becky, and Melissa; and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Bonnie (Mike) Osowski. A Funeral Service for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 724 E South River Street, Appleton, with Pastor Steve Savides officiating. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

A private interment will take place at Riverside cemetery in Appleton. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity or The Nature Conservancy. They would also like to thank Aurora Zilber Family Hospice for the care & comfort provided to Tom and his family.
