Francis X. ‘Fran’ De Groot, age 97, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Bridges of Appleton. Fran was born in Little Chute on December 3, 1920, After graduating at St. Mary Catholic High School in Menasha, Fran proudly served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. Following his time in service, he was united in marriage to Dolores Kosky on June 26, 1948.

The couple enjoyed 19 years together until her passing in 1967. In 1971, he married Lois (Bestler) Quevillon, with whom he shared 47 happy years. Fran worked for Ace Floor Covering for many years.

He then owned and operated Fran’s Fashion Flooring. After he retired, he worked part time with D & M Interiors. Fran enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards and cheering on the Brewers and the Packers.

Francis will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Lois; two sons: Russ (Kathy) and Joe (Becky) De Groot; two daughters: Mary Rice and Judy Bleck; three step-children: Chris (Greg) Albert, Joe Quevillon and Dave (Sue) Quevillon; a sister, Florence Duca; sixteen grandchildren: Michelle (Matt) Edlund, Beth (John) Reed, Joe De Groot, Sarah (Carl) Casperson, Steve De Groot, Jenna DeGoey, Leah DeGoey, Kevin Bleck, Laura Albert, Sarah Albert, Andy (Kate) Quevillon, Tim Quevillon, Amanda (Collin) Corning, Mat (Emily) Hart, Cara (Anthony) Theriault and Zach (Corrie) Hart; twenty three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents: Francis X and Anna (Habermann) De Groot; first wife Dolores (Kosky) De Groot; daughter Beverly; brothers: James and Daniel; sisters: Leona Speel, Lucille Kolosso, Sr. Madeline De Groot and infant Leslie De Groot.

A memorial service will take place at 11 am on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel with Deacon Maury Reed officiating. Friends and relatives may visit at the funeral chapel on Monday from 9 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff of Touchmark, Heartland Hospice team and the staff of Bridges of Appleton for their compassionate care giving to Fran.
