Loy Clifton Byrd Jr., 87, of the Deerfield Community departed from this world on Saturday, February 23, 2019, and landed gently in the arms of his Heavenly Father. He was born in Lewis County on August 21, 1931 the son of the late Loy C. Byrd, Sr. and Mattie Susan Schieffer Byrd. In addition to his parents, Loy was preceded in death by two brothers: John Thomas Byrd and Clifford Earl Byrd; two sisters: Lela Mae Posey and Oleta Lindsay; and one son-in-law, Mark P. Coplin.
On August 22, 1959 Loy married the love of his life and best friend, Janette Taylor. After 59 wonderful years, she will forever cherish their time together. Loy is also survived by two daughters: Susan Byrd-Marth and husband, William, of Waxahachie, TX, and Lee A. Coplin of Jackson’s Mill; one granddaughter: Taylor Brooke Coplin of Jackson’s Mill; his devoted Snoodle, JoJo; two sisters-in-law: Matha Byrd of Fairmont, and Wanda Starcher of Weston; and four brothers-in-law: Russell Lindsay and Bill Posey both of Clarksburg, Richard Taylor of Weston, and David Taylor of Houston, TX.
Loy graduated from Weston High School as a member of the Class of 1951. He then served honorably in the United States Air Force. His pride for his service was evident because he could always remember he served his country for 5 years, 8 months, and 12 days.
After his service, Loy received an Accounting degree from West Virginia Business College. He attended the Waldeck United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was a member of the Board of Trustees. Loy was also a member of the Diabled American Veterans and the Scottish Rite in Clarksburg.
He also spent several years as Secretary of the Weston Lodge #10 AF&AM where he was a 50 year member. Loy retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Company after working as the District Superintendent at the Kennedy District. He will be forever remembered as a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Pap, and Friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be may to the Waldeck United Methodist Church in Loy’s honor. Friends are invited to join the family at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in Jane Lew with Masonic Grave Rites provided by the Weston Masonic Lodge #10.
