Marian Emma Nelson, 86 passed away October 12, 2018 at the Hanna B.G. Shaw Home in Middleboro after a period of failing health. Born April 4, 1932 in Brockton, MA she was the daughter of the late Carl V. and Lillian M. Nelson. Marian had lived in Brockton, Chicago and in Bridgewater and graduated from Brockton High School in 1950.

She received her associates degree in Commercial Science from Boston University in 1952 and was employed by the Women’s Missionary Society of the Augustana Lutheran Church. She also attended Bridgewater State College graduating in 1956 with a B.S. in Education. She taught in the Brockton School System until 1962 when she went to teach at Bridgewater State at the Martha M. Burnell Campus Laboratory School after receiving her Masters Degree in Education as an associate professor of Education retiring in 1996.

Marian was a Majority Member of the Order of Rainbow Girls and a member Phi Beta Kappa. She was a past president of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and Thrivant Chapter 31032. She was also a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she had sung in the choir, taught church school and directed Vacation Bible School.

She was a co-founder of Children’s Ark Preschool, and was past president of the Martha Guild and Lutheran Church Womens. She had also served on the board at High Pond where she resided and on the council at the Bridgewater Senior Center. She was cousins to Eleanor Canty of Whitman, John Nelson of Taunton, Charles Nelson of Chicago and Marlene Reid of East Bridgewater as well as other cousins in Canada, Florida and New Jersey.

She was an educator mentor to Lori Freeman of North Attleboro and will be sadly missed by her nieces Mary Ellen Wilson and Erin Easter and the caring staff of Hanna B.G. Shaw Home. Visittaion will take place on Thursday, October 18, 2018 in the church from 10 – 11 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church 900 Main St. Brockton In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Children’s Ark Preschool or the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 900 Main St. Brockton, MA.
