Marie Vinovich, 95, of Burlington, died at 2:20 AM Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehabilitation in Mediapolis. Born October 12, 1922, in Evansville, IN, she was the daughter of John and Bertha Waninger. On April 23, 1949, she married Theodore “Ted” Vinovich in Peoria, IL.

He later passed on October 5, 2004. Marie worked at Ekland’s and then J.S. Schramm Co. for 30 years. She also worked for Martha Brown Women’s Limited Store, Gregory’s Men’s Store, Seiferts, and Nature’s Corner.

She graduated from Peoria Manual High School. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She loved to cook and helped many area residents select their clothing from Burlington’s Finest Clothing Stores.

She worked as a bridal consultant at Schramm’s for many years. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. She loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was affectionately known as “Gee-gee”. Survivors include one son, Peter T. Vinovich of Burlington; two daughters, Pam (David L.) Carter of Rockford, IL, and Paula (Robert H.) Yowell of Richmond, TX; six grandsons; one granddaughter; two step-granddaughters; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Paul Greiner who was killed in WWII; her second husband, Theodore Vinovich; one daughter, Polly (Steve) Lindstadt; two brothers John and Edward; and one step-brother, Al.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Vinovich will be 10:00 AM Monday, June 18, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.

Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Big Muddy’s following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Prairie Ridge Care Facility. .
