Marnie N. Metz, 88 Youngstown: Funeral services for Marnie N. Metz who passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Friends and family may call from 10:00 to 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, OH. A service will follow at 11:00 am.

Marnie was born April 7, 1930 in Buffalo, NY. She was the daughter of the late Hugo Overoff and Gertrude Crosman. At the age of 13, she had the amazing first experiences of riding a train, a steamship and an airplane to Fairbanks, Alaska with her mother and sister Aileen.

There, Marnie graduated from high school and fell in love with a Youngstown, Ohio Army soldier stationed at Ladd Field. They married in 1948 and returned to his home town here. Marnie and her loving husband, James L. Metz, shared 46 wonderful years together until Jim’s death in 1994.

Together they raised three children: Robert (Janie) Metz, William (Thelma) Metz and Donna (Joe) Parsons, all of Youngstown. Marnie is survived by two sisters, Billie Cook, and Carol Cornelius, both of Fairbanks, AK; a step-sister Vivian Arricale of Buffalo, NY; six grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers–Ernest Overoff and Carl Crosman; and her sister Aileen Marsh.

Family was everything to Marnie; and she was everything to them. Her love and support will be tremendous loss. She was a very special person and we will miss her with all our hearts.

Trips in their motor home to Buffalo, Fairbanks and Slidell, LA helped keep Marnie and Jim connected with their loved ones. Bowling was also a part of Marnie’s life for over 25 years. She’s been a member of First Presbyterian Church for the past 55 years.

The family would like to thank the health care providers who compassionately cared for Mom during the past year–with special thank you to Dr. Charles Wilkins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. Greater East Ohio Area Center, 3695 Boardman-Canfield Rd, Suite 301, Canfield, OH 44406.
