Martin “Marty” Fitzgerald, 60, died Monday, February 25, 2019 in Pratt. He was born May 22, 1958 in Coos Bay, Oregon to Gary Edward and Roselyn Delois (Helm) Fitzgerald. After his father died in 1965 he attended grade school in Cambridge and Trenton, Nebraska.

He left Nebraska his junior year of High School. He attended a welding class in a Job Corp Center and worked as a welder for Union Pacific Railroad in Portland, Oregon. He developed a major mental illness in early adulthood.

His mother went to Oregon to get him and brought him home to be admitted to Larned State Hospital. Much of the rest of his life was spent in psychiatric care. Marty was a talented youngster, very good drummer.

He drummed with Ron Scott and the Roadmasters for an interval. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his sisters, Tina (David) Schultz of Danbury, Nebraska and Theresa Fitzgerald of Everett, Washington; nephew, Gary (Kellie) Schultz; nieces, Hilary Schultz and Jenna Fitzgerald; great nieces, Lillie and Abigail Schultz; great nephews, Cort Schultz and Tyler Fitzgerald; uncle, Don Hoskins; cousin, Angie (Hoskins) Killian and Megan Hoskins; and great cousins, Jessica and Matt Killian and Bella Hoskins and Emma Hoskins.

Martin is preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Tony and Bernice Fitzgerald; maternal grandparents, Paul and Alice Helm; maternal cousin, Mike Hoskins; and maternal aunt, Julie (Helm) Hoskins. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to McCook Humane Society in care of Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt.
