Shirley Jean “Wehling” Boots went to be with Jesus Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis cardio ICU in Wichita after a week-long health battle. She was comforted by her family at her side. Shirley was born to Fred C. “Fritz” and Hazel I. (Thomas) Wehling on May 7, 1936 at their rural Pratt County farm home.

She attended Glendale grade school and Isabel High School. She worked at Jo Mar Dairy in Pratt while her fiancé, Edwin Boots was in the military. On February 11, 1956, she and Ed were married at the Isabel UMC.

They began farming in Finney County, retiring in 1998 and moving to Pratt in 2002. Shirley and Ed were part of the 1992 Class of Kansas Master Farmer Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lloyd, Clyde (Ruth) and Richard Wehling.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; daughter, Diana (Dr. Jerry) Nixon of Wichita; sons, Bradley (Alicia) Boots and Brian (Angela) Boots all of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Ryan Nixon, Grant (Courtney) Nixon, Aaron (fiancé, Diane Schmit) Boots, David Boots, Dayna Boots and Finley Boots; great grandson, Riley C. Nixon; brother, Darrel (Rose) Wehling of Pratt; sister, Beth (Merle) Rose of Pratt; sister in-law, Phyllis Wehling of Hutchinson; and many loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation with family will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt.

Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at First United Methodist Church with inurnment following at Isabel Cemetery, Isabel. Memorials may be made to UMC 50/50 Class or Donor’s Choice in care of Larrison Mortuary.
